The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florence

  Sat 02 Sep 2017 to Sun 21 Jan 2018
Auckland Art Gallery

From the private art collection of the eminent Corsini family in Florence, comes this fascinating exhibition featuring Renaissance and Baroque painting by European artists such as Botticelli, Andrea del Sarto, Caravaggio and Pontormo.

Owned by the dynastic and influential Corsini family of central Italy, these remarkable artworks have been preserved over the centuries to tell the compelling story of a family who turned their love and passion for art into a collection that dates from the 15th century.

The exhibition provides a window on the family’s continuing passion for collecting art, their support of artists, and their ongoing loyalty to the city of Florence, which has prevailed through the devastation of WWll and the inescapable forces of nature during the flood in Florence in 1966. From a palazzo on the banks of the river Arno to the world stage, The Corsini Collection reveals a story that is as much about a family and about a city, as it is about art.

The Corsini Collection is organised by the Galleria Corsini, Florence; Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki; Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; and MondoMostre, Rome.
