Hawaiki TU presents Te Manawa in partnership with Auckland Theatre Company
Te Manawa is a Haka Theatre performance that combines elements of Kapa Haka, Maori Movement and theatre, drawing on themes associated with Matariki – navigation, cultivation and celebration of life. Te Manawa will kick off the 2017 Matariki season at the ASB Waterfront Theatre.
Te Manawa (One Heart, One Soul) tells the love story of Koru and Te Mauri, two young lovers from opposing iwi, bound together by a negotiated truce.
Told through kapa haka, dance and theatre this bilingual production is an action-packed celebration of aroha in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles and conflict.
“Presented with pride and polish, confident movement, bursts of poi and crisp mau rakau exchanges, with heartfelt solo and full-throated ensemble singing, and with distinct characterisation of the key roles…” – Theatreview
Through telling this story, renowned haka theatre company Hawaiki TU aims to inspire people of all ages to be proud of who they are and where they come from.
Join Hawaiki TU to honour the significance of Matariki, and the many ways it is celebrated in Aotearoa.
